Non-work interests
family
I'm fortunate to have a loving, intelligent, and caring partner who balances out some of my quirks (see many hobbies, below), and two fun-loving and healthy kids.
coffee and baking
Making coffee isn't all that different than your typical biochemistry prep. In fact, I contend that pulling a perfect espresso at home is more difficult than a biochemical purification in lab!
music
Everything is better with good music - making your own or just listening.
getting outdoors
Whether on the road or on the dirt, cycling is one of the greatest sports on the planet. Nordic skiing and rock climbing/bouldering are right up there as well.
garage life
I try to approach problems with the attitude of "I can figure out how that works... and/or how to fix it..." Working on cars, bikes, a house, toys, etc. brings new challenges and opportunities to learn something. Plus, it helps keep things out of the landfill.
photography
I enjoy capturing landscapes and unique objects, and the occasional dog portrait.
